The Cross River State Governor’s Cup competition, has been concluded with three teams receiving cash prizes.
The competition was tagged the “Sweet Prince Cup” where Bakassi emerged victorious with a 2-1 score against Ikom.
Solidifying Bakassi’s position as the winner of the 2023 Governor’s Football Competition, the team carted home a cash prize of N2.5 million.
Closely followrd by Ikom securing the 2nd runner-up position with a prize of N1.5 million.
While Prince 7 Football Club of Calabar claimed the 1st runner-up title with N1 million for their dedication and hard work.
The 2023 Governor’s Football Competition took place at the main bowl of the U.J Esuene Sports Stadium in Calabar where the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon Peter Odey, who represented the State Governor, Sen Bassey Edet Otu, kicked off the match between the formidable Bakassi and Ikom teams.
Passionate sports fans and esteemed personalities from across the state gathered to witness the highly anticipated finale thrilling match.
Hon. Agnes Atsu, Commissioner for Sports Development pledged to revamp and redevelop sports activities within the state and beyond.
The Soecial Assistant to the governor on General Duties, Barr. Akiba Ekpenyong, spoke glowingly of the participants saying the future of sports sector in the state remains promising.
