The Middle Belt Journalists Forum (MBJF) convened its Congress on December 26th, 2023, to deliberate on the security crisis unfolding in the Middle Belt region. The Congress issued a series of resolutions in response to the recent Christmas Eve killings of 150 unarmed Plateau residents by terrorists.

Condolences and Condemnation:
The MBJF strongly condemns the heinous Christmas Eve killings and expresses deep sympathy for the families of the victims. The Congress calls on security agencies to swiftly identify and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Commendation for Swift Government and Military Response:
The MBJF acknowledges and commends the Federal Government and the military for their prompt response in neutralizing the attacks.
Support for Military Relocation:
The Congress particularly praises the timely relocation of the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Chris Musa, along with additional troops to Plateau State, aimed at intensifying efforts to apprehend the criminals.
Recovery of Occupied Public Spaces: The MBJF demands the immediate recovery of public schools, health care facilities, and farmlands currently occupied by suspected terrorists.
Call for Military Investigation:
The MBJF urges the Chief of Defence Staff to conduct a thorough investigation into allegations of military involvement in some of the attacks, emphasizing the importance of accountability.
Palliatives for Affected Communities:
The Congress appeals to the Federal Government to provide palliatives to the affected communities, aiming to alleviate the suffering of the victims and their families.
Advocacy and Sensitization: A delegation from the MBJF will travel to the affected communities to engage in advocacy and sensitization efforts, addressing the immediate needs and concerns of the local population.
Partnership for Lasting Solutions:
Recognizing the need for sustainable solutions, the MBJF plans to activate a partnership with the military and community leaders to address the recurrent attacks in Plateau and the broader Middle Belt region.
