The Canadian government has reintroduced two programs aimed at welcoming caregivers for new applications to enter Canada starting from January 1, 2024.

Canada announced that these two initiatives consist of 5-year pilot programs designed to facilitate eligible caregivers and their families in relocating and obtaining permanent residency status.

In an updated announcement, the Canadian government stated that experienced caregivers can utilize either of these programs to move to the North American country along with their family members.

It was also revealed that now, only 12 months of experience are required to qualify, a reduction from the initial requirement of 24 months for caregivers.

“The Home Child Care Provider Pilot and the Home Support Worker Pilot are both 5-year pilot programs enabling eligible caregivers and their families to come to Canada with the intention of becoming permanent residents,” the statement outlined.

“If you have a job offer in Canada as a caregiver or possess caregiving experience in Canada, you might be eligible to apply for permanent residency through these pilot programs.”

“The application process will vary based on your specific circumstances and the amount of qualifying work experience you possess. The requirement has been revised to 12 months of experience instead of the previous 24 months.”

Meanwhile, applicants, especially those who previously applied under the “Gaining Experience” category, will need to submit evidence of adequate experience through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
