Premier League side, Tottenham have completed the signing of former Chelsea striker, Timo Werner on a loan deal for the rest of the season and an option to buy.

The London based club in a statement made the official announcement on their Twitter handle on Tuesday welcoming the German turbo.

The statement reads, “We are delighted to announce the signing of Timo Werner on loan from RB Leipzig, subject to international clearance.

“The Germany international will join the club on loan until the end of the season, with an option to make the deal permanent in the summer. He will wear the number 16 shirt.”

When Heung-min Son is away representing South Korea at the Asia Cup on international duty, the 27-year-old German striker is expected to lead the line.

Son took over as the team’s primary striker when Harry Kane left for Bayern Munich in the summer, amassing 12 goals in 21 games for Tottenham thus far this season.

After a disastrous tenure at Chelsea, Werner—who cost £45 million—is back in the Premier League for a second term. Werner first arrived from RB Leipzig in 2020.

Despite having a high profile when he joined Stamford Bridge, he fell short of the team’s expectations, scoring only 10 goals in 56 league games before moving back to Leipzig for £25 million two years later.

It had been rumored for some weeks now that Werner was unhappy in Germany and desired to go back to England. In an attempt to help their summer acquisition Rasmus Hojlund, he was strongly associated with Manchester United; nonetheless, Tottenham eventually emerged as the front-runner to recruit him.
