The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Olu Agunloye, the former Minister of Power and Steel, in connection with the controversial $6 billion Mambilla hydropower project.
The arraignment took place at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday.
Agunloye, who served as Minister under the previous administration, faced multiple charges related to financial impropriety and mismanagement of funds earmarked for the Mambilla hydropower project, one of Nigeria’s most ambitious energy initiatives. The project, which has been mired in delays and allegations of corruption, is designed to boost the country’s electricity supply significantly.
During the court proceedings, Agunloye pleaded not guilty to all charges. The judge ordered Agunloye’s remand in Kuje Prison, pending a bail hearing.
