Nigeria’s fuel industry witnessed a paradigm shift as seven major oil marketers, including industry giants like 11 Plc and Total Nigeria Plc, have secured approval to distribute Dangote Fuel. This move breaks the long-standing monopoly of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and paves the way for increased competition.
Truth Live News gathered that the Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN) announced on Sunday that the approved marketers, namely 11 Plc, Conoil Plc, Ardova Plc, MRS Oil Nigeria Plc, OVH Energy Marketing Limited, Total Nigeria Plc, and NNPC Retail, have officially registered with the state-of-the-art $20 billion Dangote Petroleum Refinery. This marks a significant stride towards the distribution of refined petroleum products from the mammoth 650,000 barrels per day (bpd) refinery.
The registration of these key industry players signals the imminent commencement of fuel distribution once commercial terms are finalized. The Dangote refinery, which reached a noteworthy milestone by initiating the production of Automotive Gas Oil (diesel) and JetA1 (aviation fuel), is set to reshape the dynamics of the Nigerian fuel market.
Notably, the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) and the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) are actively involved in discussions with the Dangote refinery’s management. IPMAN, planning talks later this week, aims to negotiate favorable terms for product loading, while PETROAN continues its engagements for the supply of products from this multi-billion-dollar facility.
