In a devastating incident on a Saturday afternoon, an explosion in Kidandan village, Giwa Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna State, resulted in the tragic death of a pupil from an Islamiyya school. Preliminary reports indicate that the explosion occurred when one of the pupils, under the guidance of a local cleric, picked up an object from the bush, which later exploded among fellow students.
Truth Live News reports that the Honorable Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs in Kaduna, Samuel Aruwan, has announced that the governor has instructed the ministry to collaborate with security agencies for an urgent investigation into the cause of the explosion. As of the latest update, one pupil, identified as Zaidu Usman, has been confirmed dead, while approximately ten others are receiving medical attention at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Shika-Zaria.
Mansir Hassan, the police spokesperson in Kaduna, corroborated the incident, stating that the children found an object in the bush, brought it to the school, and attempted to open it, resulting in a tragic explosion.
The spokesperson emphasized that the area is known for ongoing security operations, and the command’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team has visited the scene to ascertain whether the explosion was caused by a bomb or another source.
This heartbreaking event follows closely on the heels of a recent explosion in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, which claimed the lives of five individuals and left over 77 others injured. The recurrence of such incidents underscores the urgent need for enhanced safety measures, awareness, and vigilance in communities across the nation.
