President Zelensky revealed on Monday a proposed law that could lead to foreign fighters against Russia in Ukraine gaining Ukrainian citizenship.
At the onset of Russia’s invasion, thousands of foreigners rushed to aid Ukraine, resisting Moscow’s forces attempting to seize control and overthrow Ukrainian leadership. Zelensky, in a social media post, stated, “Foreign volunteers who took up arms to defend Ukraine, all those who fight for Ukraine’s freedom as if it were their homeland. And Ukraine will become such for them.”
Truth Live News gathered that the new legislation aims to formally permit Ukrainians to hold dual citizenship, except with Russia. Additionally, Zelensky announced signing a decree titled “On the Territories of the Russian Federation Historically Inhabited by Ukrainians,” with details undisclosed, emphasizing its importance for Ukraine’s future.
Kyiv not only received a variety of Western-supplied weapons but also witnessed citizens from various countries fighting alongside its forces. Units consisting of Belarusians and Russians, despite being labeled “aggressor countries” by Kyiv, joined the conflict as Russian forces attacked Ukraine from Belarusian territory.
President Putin, responding to an attack on Belgorod, declared an escalation in strikes on Ukrainian military targets, vowing to punish crimes against civilians. This decision followed a large-scale attack by Moscow on Ukrainian cities. Putin asserted the continuation of strikes on what he termed “military installations.”
The geopolitical landscape continues to evolve, with Ukraine’s president taking steps to integrate foreign fighters into the nation’s fabric amid ongoing tensions with Russia.
