Gov. Obaseki Mandates all Firms with at Least Five Employers to Cover Health Insurance

The Edo State Government has mandated organisations with five employees to enroll their staff in the State Health Insurance Scheme.

In a statement, the Secretary to the State Government, Osarodion Ogie Esq., said the action by the State Government will help in promoting the vision of achieving Universal Health Coverage.

He said, “The Edo State Government wishes to draw the attention of the general public, particularly, Organizations and Business entities operating in the State to the provision of S.21(1) of the Edo State Health Insurance Commission Law, 2019, which makes it mandatory for Organizations in Edo State with a minimum of five employees to enroll their staff into the State Health Insurance Scheme.”

According to him, “The State Government’s action is borne out of her urgent desire to uphold the promotion of the vision of achieving Universal Health Coverage through the discharge of necessary obligations to her citizenry towards their improved health status while ensuring compliance with all ethical practices.

“In light of the foregoing, all organizations in Edo State, which fall into the above category, are by this notice advised to comply with the provisions of the State Health Insurance Law, 2019, by ensuring enrolment of their Staff into the Scheme on or before 1st March, 2024, as failure to do so will attract necessary legal action.”
