Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has criticized the failure of Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to offer condolences following the recent Ibadan explosion.

Makinde expressed his appreciation for the visit of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), who condoled with him at the Government House in Ibadan over the January 16 explosion, which resulted in the loss of lives and extensive property damage.

While acknowledging the gestures of President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peter Obi, Makinde emphasized Atiku’s lack of communication regarding the incident.

Makinde highlighted the need for leaders to prioritize both political engagements and humanitarian concerns, stressing the importance of governance amidst challenges like the Ibadan explosion.

During his visit, Peter Obi extended condolences to the affected families and assured them of prayers for the souls of the departed.

He commended Makinde for his prompt response to the tragedy, stressing the importance of government support and efficient investigation processes during such crises.

The Ibadan explosion, which caused extensive damage to numerous houses within a 14-kilometre radius, Truth Live News reports, remains under investigation, with authorities working to address the lapses that led to the incident.
