Nigeria are into the Africa Cup of Nations semi-final!

FT Nigeria 1-0 Angola

And Nigeria see it behind for a goal kick.

They are into the semi-final at AFCON again.

While the winning margin was very tight, Nigeria are deserving of their place in the semi-final.

Angola gave it everything, but their opponents just had too much quality.

Lookman’s goal was the difference on the scoreboard, but the Nigeria defenders were superb as they hardly allowed Angola any chances throughout the 90 minutes.

Late corner for Angola

Bassey takes no chances as he puts an Angolan cross behind for a corner…

Osimhen denied again!

82′ Nigeria 1-0 Angola

Another Nigeria game at this tournament where I have no idea how Osimhen has not scored!

Him and Lookman break away and Osimhen is picked out on the edge of the penalty area. He twists and turns leaving Gaspar for dead but the Angola defender recovers brilliantly to keep out his left-footed shot.

Nigeria’s No. 9 had to score there!

The goal is disallowed!

76′ Nigeria 1-0 Angola

The replays show Osimhen went too early and the goal has been disallowed.

It is still only 1-0 to Nigeria.

76′ Nigeria 2-0 Angola

A VAR check may well rule out this second goal…

Osimhen makes it 2-0!

75′ Nigeria 2-0 Angola

Osimhen has his goal!

Cafumana wipes out Lookman

63′ Nigeria 1-0 Angola

Moments after a piece of wizardry from Moses Simon, Nigeria have a dangerous free kick.

Lookman danced towards the Angola penalty area and was wiped out by Cafumana’s mistimed sliding challenge. Somehow, the Angola midfielder escapes a yellow card.

Zini hits the post for Angola!

60′ Nigeria 1-0 Angola

Within an inch of an equaliser!

Cafumana threaded a brilliant pass through the Nigeria defence and into the path of Zini and it looked like he had equalised after bending his curling effort around Nwabili.

But no! His low shot bounced back off the post and to safety, much to the relief of the Nigeria defenders.

Bassey heads over!

58′ Nigeria 1-0 Angola

That should have been the goal to make it 2-0 to Nigeria!

Troost-Ekong headed Sanusi’s corner back into the danger zone and Bassey attacked it in a yard of space. But he was disturbed by an attempted overhead kick from Osimhen and headed a long way over the crossbar.

55′ Lookman has joined the league of Nigerian top scorers at the Cup.

The second half is underway.

A tactical masterstroke from Peseiro

HT Nigeria 1-0 Angola

A few minutes before Nigeria scored, Lookman and Simon switched wings. As they did it in their previous game against Cameroon.

I’m not sure head coach Jose Peseiro expected the move to pay off so quickly this time though.

Nigeria 1-0 in front at half time

HT Nigeria 1-0 Angola

And there goes the half-time whistle.

Nigeria have a deserved lead at the halfway stage after dominating the majority of the first half.

Angola, though, are very much in this game and will maintain their threat in the second half.

Three minutes added on

45+1′ Nigeria 1-0 Angola

There will be three more minutes of this first half.

Lookman makes it 1-0 to Nigeria!

41′ Nigeria 1-0 Angola

Nigeria’s two wingers combine for the opening goal!

30′ Nigeria 0-0 Angola

Iwobi bends his first effort of the game towards goal from almost 30 yards and Gaspar gets his head in the way of it.

But it has come at a cost as the Angola centre-back is dazed and drops to the turf to receive some medical attention.

That allows the rest of the players to take their first cooling break.

25 mins: Nigeria 0-0 Angola

Nigeria go close
Osimhen is starting to find his range. His aerial ability is again on display, as he heads powerfully towards Signori’s goal from a cross from the right. But, it’s straight to the keeper and comfortably parried.

15 mins: Nigeria 0-0 Angola

Frantic start
Intricate play sees the ball break into the box, where Ademola Lookman attempts to fire across goal from a few yards out but Angola clear their lines. Nice tempo to the game so far.

5 mins: Nigeria 0-0 Angola

Angola hit the post
Gilberto makes good contact from a corner and his header finds Mabululu, whos shot from a couple of yards is saved incredibly by Nwabali. What a chance, what a save!

1 mins: Nigeria 0-0 Angola

And we’re off.
