Member representing Oredo West Constituency at the Edo State House of Assembly, Dr. Richard Edosa, has begged well meaning Nigerians to render help to indigent students to enable them achieve their academic goals as economic situation bites harder on parents.

He made the appeal while giving 40 of the indigent students money to enroll for their Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board(JAMB), in Benin.

Dr. Edosa said times are very hard and many parents are finding it very difficult to cope, let alone pay for their children’s JAMB enrollment.

Edosa said there are a lot of brilliant students whose dreams might be aborted except well meaning Nigerians come to their rescue by picking up some of these bills.

Addressing newsmen on the reason for the gesture, he said the economic reality of the country is not friendly as parents are finding it very difficult to cope and that, this is having a negative impact on the education of their children.

Edosa said he decided to bridge the gap by wading in at this critical time of the country.

“If you look at the current economic in our country, you will see that there is an economic downturn.

“Farmers are frustrated, they can’t go to farms, students have beginning to loose interest in their education because there is no funds to sponsor them by their parents.

“Even the ones that are still interested in education, they are under financial distress from their parents.

“One way to alleviate this suffering is to see how we can help them in this critical stage or face of their education.

“At this point, we call it their formative stage in a education, their secondary education is vital and their transition into a new academic atmosphere like the tertiary institution is also very important for them and most of them can’t afford it even though they are talented, or brilliant, they can’t afford it.

“I thought, one way to help them in achieving their dreams, is to pay for their JAMB forms”, Edosa said.

Edosa urged the beneficiaries to leverage on the opportunity given to them at the moment to be serious with their studies and become useful to themselves and to the society in the future.
