Akwa Ibom State Governor Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, has flagged off the dualization of 13.5 km Okopedi- Oron Road by East- West Road( Phase 11) in fulfillment of his campaign promise.
The kicked off took place on Tuesday in Okobo Local Government Area.
Meanwhile, he has also began the dualization of the 13.6km Unyenge- Universal Energy Road to Ibom Deep Seaport with 2nd Bridge of 30m and 45m span down to Affi-Uda Village in Mbo LGA.
For instance, the Chinese engineering and construction giant, CCECC, handled the projects.
Accordingly, the contractors will deliver the roads for commissioning in 24 months.
Although, the projects cost is put at over N100 billion but Ekerete Udoh, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor claimed he didn’t borrowed a dime to execute any of the projects.
Truth Live News learned that during the flag-off, the Governor promised to flag off 18 strategic roads across all the 10 Federal Constituencies with the first set, in Oron.
He said this is in keeping to his campaign promises to the people.
He also promised to turn the Oron Beach into a tourist’ haven. The Flagged off therefore, was a fulfillment of that campaign promise.
“We are on course. We believe in action as we do not take your votes for granted,” said the Governor.
In addition he had promised to reintroduce the long moribund ferry services, a popular means of transportation back in the 70s and the 80s if elected.
Therefore, the state government already has awarded the contract to the Nigerian Navy for construction of the ferries.
Meanwhile, Orman Esin, the Hon Commissioner for Transport, will handle the projects.
On the other hand, Governor has announced that government will hold Town Hall meetings from June this year.
Moreover, the meeting will highlight his administration’s scorecard and his administration’s spirit of inclusivity and continuous consultation with the grassroot.
Nevertheless, the Governor later visited General Hospital, Iquita Oron, where Hensek Integrated Services offered free medical services incollaboration with Governmment.
The Deputy Governor, Sen Akon Eyakenyi, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Udeme Otong attended the Flag off, among others.
