Benin City, Edo state
In a letter addressed to the Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. (Dr.) Felix Ehiguese Akhabue, also known as JOEFEL, announced his withdrawal from the Edo PDP February 2024 Governorship Primary scheduled for the 22nd of February, 2024.
In a statement made available to Truth Live News, he cited concerns over what he described as observable challenges to the electoral process, Akhabue stated that despite being cleared as a qualified aspirant, he had lodged complaints against the imposition of a particular aspirant from the Edo Central Senatorial District, where he hails from.
These complaints, submitted to the National Working Committee, highlighted the alleged disregard for principles of free, fair, and reliable electoral processes by select party leaders.
Furthermore, Akhabue revealed that he, along with eight other aggrieved aspirants, had filed complaints against the ward and National Delegates Congresses, which remained unaddressed by appeal panels. Despite acknowledgment of the complaints’ merit by the appeal panel, Akhabue expressed disappointment in the absence of a political solution.
Consequently, after careful consideration of the circumstances, Akhabue announced his withdrawal from the gubernatorial contest for personal reasons. He concluded his letter by extending well wishes to the party’s future endeavors and invoked divine intervention for guidance.
