Benin City, Edo state

Alhaji Lamidi Apapa, the factional National Chairman, and Alhaji Saleh Lawan, his National Secretary, of the Labour Party, submitted the names of their gubernatorial candidates for the Edo State September 21st, 2024 election to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on February 22nd, 2024.

In a statement made available to Truth Live News, Barr. Anderson Uwadiae Asemota emerged as the party’s Governorship Candidate, while Barr. Monday Ojore Mawah was selected as the Deputy Governorship Candidate.

The submission followed the party’s primary election held in Benin, Edo State. The Labour Party expressed gratitude for the commission’s anticipated cooperation and signed off the letter of submission with regards to the forthcoming election.

Recall that another Labour Party primaries took place in Bishop Kelly Pastoral Center where Olumide Akpata emerged. That primary was overseen by the deputy governor of the only Labour Party governed state, Abia.

This has fueled speculation of a long drawn out legal battle.
