Hon. Dennis Idahosa, one of the governorship aspirants in the recently concluded All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election in Edo State, led a demonstration today at the party’s headquarters in Abuja, demanding fairness in the electoral process.
The controversy surrounding the APC primary results erupted after the initial announcement of Idahosa as the victor by the former chairman of the APC primary election Committee and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma. However, doubts were cast over the legitimacy of the results, leading to a fresh primary election
Addressing the gathering at the party’s headquarters, Idahosa expressed his commitment to justice and fairness, stating, “I am not here to make trouble; I am a lawmaker. But one thing that we want is justice. Today, I might be a young man, but it might be the children of NWC members tomorrow. We have to do the right thing. If we continue to do what is wrong as a country, we are not going to move forward.”
He further emphasized the need for the party’s leadership to ensure a transparent and fair electoral process, urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene. Idahosa accused the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC of compromising the democratic process, alleging that what transpired on the 22nd was merely a “selection” rather than a genuine election.
“I am calling on Mr. President to call NWC to order. Elections were held on the 17th of February. What they did on the 22nd was just a selection,” Idahosa added.
In a bold move, Idahosa also declared his intention to pursue legal action against the party if fairness and justice are not upheld. The aspirant expressed concern that the irregularities in the primary election could set a precedent detrimental to the democratic values the party claims to uphold.
