Last week Thursday, Dr. Asue Ighodalo emerged victorious in the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) gubernatorial primary election, securing 577 votes to become the party’s candidate for the highly anticipated Edo State gubernatorial election slated for September 2024.

Governor Godwin Obaseki, addressing journalists in Benin City yesterday, shed light on the factors that led to Ighodalo’s triumph. According to Obaseki, the key to Ighodalo’s success lies in his unwavering commitment and hard work throughout the campaign.

“What you have seen today is a reward for hard work,” Governor Obaseki stated. “Of all the aspirants, I can authoritatively say that Mr. Asue Ighodalo was the only one who traversed the 192 wards of Edo State. He spent his resources, time, and energy to convince members of our party, PDP, across the nooks and crannies of the state that he is the best candidate to succeed me in office.”

Obaseki emphasized the diligence exhibited by Ighodalo, noting that he was the sole aspirant who meticulously navigated through the extensive process, engaging with party delegates at every level. The governor urged other aspirants to emulate Ighodalo’s approach, underlining the significance of reaching out to party members across the state.

“I encourage every aspirant to do the same, but veritably, he was the only one who had the diligence to go through the process. I guess that was what was rewarded last week. I am sure there was no delegate in that pitch he has not met before that day,” Obaseki concluded.
