In commemoration of Mother’s Day 2024, Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has expressed profound appreciation for the indispensable role mothers play in societal development. Emphasizing their resilience, sacrifice, and resourcefulness, Governor Obaseki hailed mothers for adeptly navigating the intricate challenges of motherhood, particularly amidst prevailing economic hardships.
Truth Live News gathered that Governor Obaseki acknowledged the multifaceted difficulties mothers encounter, encompassing household management, societal expectations, and professional obligations. Despite these adversities, he lauded mothers for their unwavering dedication and grace in surmounting obstacles, attributing their sacrifices to the advancement of society.
Highlighting the significance of maternal contributions, Governor Obaseki underscored mothers’ pivotal role in driving reforms and shaping a brighter future. He characterized mothers as God’s exceptional gift to humanity and emphasized the need to celebrate and honor their love, care, and steadfast commitment to family and community.
According to him, “Mothers are God’s most distinctive gift to mankind, and this year’s Mother’s Day celebration presents yet another fine opportunity to celebrate and appreciate them for their sacrifices, love, care and unflinching commitment to family and society.
“Even in the face of dire economic straits, they have shown brightly, conquering several odds to be the superhumans they are. It is in this light that the state government is executing reforms and undertaking projects to make the roles of mothers easier. We are executing empowerment programmes, making the workplace friendlier, and implementing more policies to lessen the load on mothers.”
Addressing the challenges posed by economic constraints, Governor Obaseki reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting mothers. He outlined various initiatives aimed at easing the burden on mothers, including empowerment programs, initiatives to create a more conducive workplace environment, and policy interventions to alleviate societal pressures.
Furthermore, Governor Obaseki emphasized the inclusion of women, particularly mothers, in decision-making processes. He highlighted the significant representation of women in top-tier positions within the government, emphasizing their invaluable contributions to building a more inclusive society.
Governor Obaseki cited government reforms across various sectors, such as healthcare, education, housing, and agriculture, where mothers’ involvement has been instrumental in enhancing the quality of life for the people of Edo State. He commended their achievements and contributions, reaffirming the government’s commitment to safeguarding mothers’ interests and providing them with greater opportunities for success and fulfillment.
The governor stated, “We have brought mothers to the decision table as we have a good number of women occupying top-tier positions in government, which affords us the opportunity to tap from their innate potential to build a better and inclusive society.
“From our government’s reforms in healthcare to education, housing, agricultural programmes, gender mainstreaming and many more, mothers who have been placed at strategic points in the value chain have all played huge roles in ensuring a better life for Edo people and we are proud of their accomplishments and exploits.”
