A group on the platform of Federalist Movement of Nigeria (FMN), has urged president Bola Tinubu to keep his electioneering promise of restructuring the country.

The president of the group, Adetomiwa Adetilewa made the appeal in a letter addressed to the president of the country.

The group urged the president to embark on restructuring of Nigeria along the principles of true federalism as he had clamoured for throughout his political journey.

The group added that that Nigeria can only thrive when governance is decentralized, and power is distributed equitably, noting that true federalism is not just a political philosophy but practical solution to the socio-economic and political issues that are currently facing the country.

“We understand the challenges facing our great nation and recognize the crucial role that restructuring plays in addressing these challenges.

“As you may recall, during your campaign and subsequent inauguration, you emphasized the need for Nigeria to embrace true federalism to foster unity, equity, and sustainable development.

“Your vision of a restructured Nigeria resonated with many citizens who believe this is the path to a stronger, more prosperous nation.

“We kindly remind you of the importance of fulfilling this promise. With its diverse cultures, languages, and regions, Nigeria can only thrive when governance is decentralized, and power is distributed equitably.

“True federalism is not just a political philosophy; it is a practical solution to the socio-economic and political issues that our nation currently faces”, the group said.

The FMN, said it will be ready to contribute its expertise and resources to facilitate the development of a new constitution that would reflect the values of true federalism.

“By working collaboratively, we can help design an acceptable process that will help draft a constitution that not only adheres to the principles of true federalism but also stands as a testament to the strength and resilience of the Nigerian people.

“The Federalist Movement of Nigeria is ready to engage in meaningful discussions, provide research support, and offer any assistance required to ensure the success of this vital endeavor”, the letter reads further.

“We understand the complexities involved in restructuring a nation. However, we are confident that with your leadership and the collective efforts of all stakeholders, we can build a fair, just, and prosperous Nigeria for all its citizens,” the group said in their letter.
