The Federal Government has announced an additional public holiday on Thursday, April 11th, 2024, to celebrate Eid-El-Fitr this year. This decision was communicated through a press statement released by the Ministry of Interior.
Dr. Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, the Honourable Minister of Interior, extended his congratulations to the Muslim Ummah for the successful completion of a month of spiritual rejuvenation. He emphasized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to ensuring a safe and prosperous Nigeria for all citizens.
The announcement of the extra public holiday comes as a result of the non-sighting of the crescent moon yesterday, which would have marked the end of the Ramadan fast. Consequently, the Federal Government decided to extend the holiday to allow for proper observance of the Eid-El-Fitr celebrations.
In the statement signed by Dr. Aishetu Gogo Ndayako, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, the government reaffirmed its dedication to fostering unity and inclusivity among all religious and ethnic groups in the country. The extension of the public holiday demonstrates the government’s recognition of the significance of religious celebrations and its commitment to upholding religious freedom and cultural diversity.
This additional public holiday is an extension of the Federal Government’s initial two-day holiday on Wednesday and Tuesday for the Eid celebrations. It provides an opportunity for families and communities to come together in celebration and reflection, fostering social cohesion and harmony.
The Ministry of Interior assured the public that necessary arrangements would be made to ensure the smooth observance of the holiday across the country. This decision aligns with the government’s efforts to promote national unity, peace, and harmony, while also honoring the religious traditions and values of all Nigerians.
