After the recent uproar over alleged mismanagement of N30bn in the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has spoken up to address the issue.

Reports surfaced last week suggesting that N30bn was allegedly linked to the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs Ministry, Betta Edu, and that 50 bank accounts in which money were transferred to were also linked to her.

In response, the EFCC released a statement through its spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, on Sunday evening.

Oyewale clarified that the EFCC has been conducting investigations into the matter, resulting in the recovery of N32.7bn and $445,000 so far.

The investigations have also uncovered other instances of financial misconduct related to Covid-19 funds, World Bank loans, and Abacha recovered loot allocated to the Ministry.

Oyewale emphasized that the EFCC is delving into a complex network of fraudulent activities, including the involvement of certain bank officials. He assured that those found guilty will face prosecution.

Furthermore, Oyewale addressed the recent controversy surrounding Naira abuse, specifically mentioning the case involving the popular personality Bobrisky.

He affirmed the EFCC’s commitment to enforcing laws against Naira abuse and dollarization, noting ongoing investigations into several celebrities implicated in such activities.

In conclusion, Oyewale reiterated the EFCC’s dedication to upholding the law without bias and urged the public to cooperate with ongoing investigations.
