The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has made a significant move in its ongoing efforts to combat corruption within Nigeria’s aviation sector.

Truth Live News can confirm that former Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, was apprehended by the EFCC in connection with an alleged N8 billion fraud case. This arrest marks a crucial step in the investigation into fraudulent activities during Sirika’s tenure as minister.

Sirika, who once held a prominent position in Nigeria’s government, was taken into custody at the EFCC’s Federal Capital Territory Command. The arrest, occurring on Tuesday afternoon, underscores the seriousness of the allegations against him. He is currently undergoing questioning regarding suspected fraudulent contracts awarded during his time as Minister of Aviation.

According to sources within the EFCC, the allegations against Sirika involve irregularities in contracts granted to Engirios Nigeria Limited, a company owned by his younger sibling, Abubakar Sirika. These contracts, totaling over N8 billion, encompass various projects such as airport construction, maintenance, and equipment procurement.

Projects under scrutiny include the construction of the Terminal Building in Katsina Airport, establishment of a Fire Truck Maintenance and Refurbishment Center in Katsina Airport, and procurement of equipment for Aviation House in Abuja, among others. The EFCC is also investigating the procurement of aircraft and a simulator for the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, Zaria.

Abubakar Sirika, the younger brother of the former minister, was previously arrested in connection with the same case. As the sole signatory to Engirios Nigeria Limited’s accounts, he is suspected of playing a significant role in the alleged fraud. The EFCC is examining a transfer of over N3 billion to the company’s accounts, with no evidence of completed work related to the contracts.

The investigation into Hadi Sirika’s tenure is expected to reveal more details about possible conspiracy, abuse of office, diversion of public funds, and contract inflation. The EFCC’s relentless pursuit of high-profile corruption cases reflects its commitment to rooting out malfeasance in public office.

Hadi Sirika’s arrest has garnered significant public attention, with many Nigerians praising the government’s efforts to tackle corruption. There is a growing sentiment that the administration led by Tinubu is taking decisive action against glaring corruption cases. Nigerians are hopeful that the EFCC will continue its pursuit of justice and secure convictions in cases like this, ensuring accountability and transparency in governance.
