In the wake of Multichoice’s recent decision to raise subscription fees in Nigeria, many consumers are actively seeking alternatives to the popular satellite television provider, DSTV.

Various netizens encouraged Nigerians to explore other options rather than simply complaining about the price hike. They asserted that the availability of other options beyond DSTV, particularly for football and entertainment.

“Besides football, there’s basically nothing of note on DSTV,” Odanz tweeted. “But this outrage over their price hike is quite hypocritical. Everyone has increased their prices, even small businesses. So why shouldn’t DSTV?” One questioned.

While some are still lamenting the increase, others have turned to social media to advocate for more affordable alternatives, with SLTV emerging as a popular choice. SLTV, operated by Metro Digital Limited, boasts over 50 HD channels, including 10 sports channels broadcasting live football matches from various leagues, all at a monthly subscription ranging from N5,000 to N2,500.

Truth Live News gathered from Twitter, that other users praised SLTV as the best alternative to DSTV, highlighting its affordability and comparable service offerings. Another Twitter user, @mrblaaast, endorsed SLTV as a cheaper option, noting that DSTV dishes can be used to operate it.

SLTV’s appeal lies in its diverse channel lineup catering to various interests, including sports, cartoons, local news, and popular international channels like CNN and Al Jazeera.

However, some users noted drawbacks such as slightly delayed football matches compared to DSTV and lower picture quality for certain content types. Nonetheless, for those seeking a more budget-friendly option without compromising on essential programming, SLTV presents a compelling choice amidst DSTV’s price hikes.

It remains to be seen if any company can break the monopoly of coverage, technology, excellence and service that DSTV has brought for the last 2 decades.
