The Cross River State, Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, Prince Eka Williams, has said that efforts are underway to restore power supply to Bakassi and Akamkpa LGAs.
The two LGAs have suffered a prolonged power outages over the past years with lack of transformers and dilapidated poles.
The Power and Renewable Energy, Commissioner on behalf of the State Government disclosed the plans at the presentation of ten transformers to the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC).
The Ministry of Power in the state ministry of information website said this initiative, marks a concrete step towards ensuring widespread access to electricity across the state.
Also, it said shortly after the symbolic handing over of the transformers to the company, Commissioner Williams highlighted the proactive approach of the administration in expanding power supply to all parts of the state.
“The initial phase of the project focuses on delivering of 10 transformers to enhance power generation in the metropolis,” it added.
“Our engineers are working tirelessly on-site to expedite the restoration of electricity to underserved communities,” says the Commissioner.
“It is crucial that we work together to protect and maintain these vital infrastructural assets to ensure uninterrupted power supply every part of the State,” he added.
Meanwhile, The Cross River Regional Manager of the PHEDC, Engr Gabriel Modukpe has expressed gratitude over the state Government’s intervention.
He said it only took a man who prioritizes the welfare of the people to demonstrate such a magnanimity.
“The collaboration between the Government and the distribution company is a testament to our shared goal of improving the lives of Cross Riverians,” he noted.
He urged residents to support the efforts by safeguarding all power infrastructure within their localities and prevent same from vandalism.
Engr Modukpe also highlighted the essential nature of electricity in the modern society.
He said outrageous billing primarily affects customers without meters,
According to him, the ongoing initiatives shall provide free meters and the introduction of Meter Asset Providers.
He said it will facilitate meter installations and an equitable billing regime.
