In a significant political development, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled Mr. Ogbiede Ihama Omoregie, the former representative for Oredo Federal Constituency, over alleged anti-party activities.
The decision was taken by Ward 2 of Oredo Local Government Area (LGA) during an enlarged meeting of ward members and executives in Benin City, Edo State.
The expulsion followed a suspension on May 3, 2024, when ward executives and critical stakeholders suspended Omoregie for 30 days and established a disciplinary committee.
According to Lawrence Aguebor, Chairman of PDP Ward 2 in Oredo, the committee reached out to Omoregie through letters and phone calls, but he failed to appear at any of the five scheduled meetings.
Aguebor said, “The committee reviewed the case and recommended Hon. Ogbiede Ihama Omoregie’s expulsion. His offenses fall under several sections, including anti-party activities, as outlined in section 58 (1) of the PDP constitution. Members of the public are advised to cease any dealings with him related to the PDP.”
The decision was put to a voice vote among ward party members, who unanimously supported the expulsion.
Victor Enoghama, Special Adviser to the Edo State Governor on Political Matters (Oredo), endorsed the expulsion, describing it as long overdue. Enoghama disclosed that Omoregie had donated a building at Ring Road by Sakponba Road Junction to the All Progressives Congress (APC) for use as a campaign office for the upcoming governorship election on September 21, 2024.
Enoghama stated, “His suspension was necessary. Omoregie cannot be part of the PDP while supporting the APC. We urge the ward of the former deputy governor to also expel Comrade Philip Shaibu for similar anti-party activities, as he has provided his campaign office and vehicles to the APC for the governorship election.”
