In a significant legal development, the Federal High Court sitting in Kano has invalidated the actions taken by the Kano State government to repeal the Kano Emirates Council Law. This decision effectively nullifies the state’s move, which led to the removal of Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero as the Emir of Kano by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Truth Live News gathered the state government had also reversed the establishment of four emirates—Bichi, Rano, Karaye, and Gaya—and dismissed the emirs appointed by the previous administration under Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

The controversial law was instrumental in the re-appointment of Muhammadu Sanusi II, the 14th Emir of Kano, who was previously dethroned by Ganduje in 2020, as the 16th Emir of Kano. However, the validity of this law was challenged in court by Aminu Babba Danagundi, a prominent figure in the former Kano emirate, who sought a declaration of its nullity through his legal representative, Chikaosolu Ojukwu (SAN).

In a ruling delivered on Thursday, Justice Abdullahi Muhammad Liman annulled the actions of the Kano government and directed all parties to maintain the existing state of affairs. The judge emphasized that despite an interim order from the court, the defendants disregarded it and proceeded with the implementation of the law. Justice Liman underscored his intention to enforce compliance with his directives through coercive measures.

Following his elevation to the Court of Appeal, the case has been transferred to Justice Simon Amobeda for further adjudication.
