The Team Asue Media Organization (TAMO) has confirmed that Dr. Asue Ighodalo, the governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is still eligible to run in the election.
This clarification follows inaccurate reports suggesting that the PDP primary election held on February 22, 2024, had been annulled and that Ighodalo had been disqualified.
In a statement from Benin City, TAMO highlighted that the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the ruling by Honourable Justice Inyang Ekwo in suit no: FHC/ABJ/CS/165/2024 did not disqualify Ighodalo or invalidate the PDP primary election.
“The judge did not at any point in the ruling mention disqualifying Ighodalo or nullifying the February 22 primary election of the PDP,” the statement read.
The confusion started when Adaze Emwanta, counsel to the plaintiffs, prematurely left the courtroom and falsely informed the press that the court had disqualified Ighodalo and annulled the primary election. Legal experts have criticized Emwanta’s actions as reckless and professionally irresponsible.
TAMO further urged all political parties to avoid spreading false information and to focus instead on promoting their candidates and policies. They specifically called on the All Progressives Congress (APC) to stop its propaganda against Dr. Asue Ighodalo.
“With the CTC now made public, the lies and propaganda of opposition parties have been short circuited.
“We call on all political parties to eschew propaganda and peddling lies and concentrate on selling their candidates and what he has to offer Edo people. The All Progressives Congress (APC) in particular, must wean itself of promoting lies and propaganda against the candidate of the PDP, Dr Asue Ighodalo.
” It bears restating here that opposition parties are doing everything to just distract the high flying candidate of the PDP, Dr Asue Ighodalo, who is the darling of the people. He is not deterred. He is keenly focused on his dream for Edo State.
“Ighodalo remains unruffled by the propaganda and is focused on selling his message of ‘The Pathway to prosperity for all’ to the people of Edo State. He has vowed not to be distracted by the machinations of enemies of democracy,” TAMO concluded.
