Plans are on to plunge Workers in Edo State into another round of economic hardship, hunger and starvation in the event that the candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Sen Monday Okpebholo is elected the governor of the state by September 21.
This was revealed in a press statement released by the Edo State Commissioner For Communications and Orientation, Hon. Chris Nehikhare and made available to Truth Live News on Monday in Benin City.
In the statement, Nehikhare urged the people of Edo State to reject the APC and its candidate in the September 21, 2024, election to prevent further hardship.
He stated that the APC has already damaged the national economy and warned that similar outcomes would occur in Edo State if they take power.
He claimed that Okebholo has expressed doubts about the state’s current minimum wage of N70,000 and suggested that he would reduce it to N50,000 if elected. The Commissioner challenged Okebholo to clarify his plans for maintaining the minimum wage, supporting pensioners, and sustaining the Edo State Health Insurance Scheme.
He also criticized the APC candidate for his lack of policy direction and described him as a “mute candidate” who has not communicated any plans for the state’s development. Nehikhare emphasized the need to reject the APC to avoid further economic decline.
Highlighting ongoing projects by the current state government, Nehikhare mentioned road constructions and efforts to address erosion issues, stressing the government’s commitment to providing the best for Edo people.
Additionally, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media Projects, Crusoe Osagie, revealed plans by certain politicians from the Labour Party and APC to attack the judiciary. He assured that the government would not tolerate such actions and urged parents to protect their children from being involved in these illegal activities.
Osagie reiterated the importance of voting for the PDP to continue the developmental strides of Governor Godwin Obaseki and to avoid the crisis brought about by the APC at the national level.
“Edo State Government will not tolerate it as the government will not allow or tolerate any group to gather or match towards the Court House to intimidate Judges and lawyers.”
“Things are hard as the APC is making life difficult for the people and we don’t want the suffering to be reinforced in Edo State. Edo people should not allow APC to bring the crisis at the national level here and as such we call on the people of the State to vote for the PDP to ensure the sustainability of the developmental strides of Governor Godwin Obaseki,” he added.
