The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Asue Ighodalo, has said, the era of “monkey dey work, baboon dey chop” is over in the state saying only those who work that should be rewarded.

He said this at a town hall meeting during the official presentation of his manifesto, “The Pathway to Prosperity for All” to Edo people in Benin.

Ighodalo said for the state to move forward than the way it is, hard work must not be sacrificed at the altar of indolence, a process that has always benefited those who never worked hard for it.

“We will reward those that are working. If you work well, the idea whereby those who did not contribute to a process are the ones enjoying it, it must be stopped.

“Anybody that works hard, must be well paid for the services rendered. That is the economy we are going to create. When you work hard, you will be well paid. All this suffering, “Monkey dey work, baboon dey chop must stop, now, monkey work, monkey chop and baboon die”. This is how we are going to do it”, Ighodalo said.

He maintained that his government will do everything in its powers to cut down the cost of governance.

“It is the digitalization of the mechanism of the Edo State government that makes it easy for the cost of governance to come down.

“And we will continue to work on the cost of governance. One of the things I found in Edo State, I don’t think Edo State has a superfluous ministries.

“Every ministry and agency is fixed for its purpose. I don’t think it is important for us to do away with those agencies, it is reducing the cost of running those agencies.

“And we will continue to reduce the cost of running those agencies. We will be efficient, we will be effective and we will be visionary during the process”, Ighodalo said.

On the part of his running mate, Osarodion Ogie, he said, governor Godwin Obaseki has laid a solid foundation for the incoming government of Ighodalo and himself to build on, adding that, they will never disappoint the electorate.
