The local government administration in Uromi has responded to accusations circulating via a video allegedly disseminated by members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), particularly targeting the Executive Chairman. The video, purportedly spread by the media team of Hon Odi Okojie, The house of representative member himself and other individuals such as Enaholo Abel Enaholo, has stirred significant public concern and prompted a swift rebuttal from the government.
Truth Live News gathered that Chief Press Secretary Okonofua Harry Osemobor addressed the issue in a statement, emphasizing the government’s stance and dismissing the allegations as baseless. “We would have ordinarily ignored such falsehoods, but as a responsible and responsive government, it is important we address these claims,” Osemobor stated.
Key Points from the Government’s Response:
No Illegal Firearms: The government clarified that there is no evidence linking the council boss to the possession of illegal firearms. “He has never empowered, supported, or shown any solidarity with any illegal armed group,” Osemobor affirmed, highlighting the chairman’s reputation for promoting peace and safety in the local government.
No Connection to the Criminal: The video does not establish any connection between the apprehended individual and the council boss. “The culprit never mentioned any link to the council boss,” Osemobor pointed out, urging the public to review the video themselves for clarity.
Culprit’s Confession: The statement noted that the apprehended individual admitted the weapons in his possession belonged to a secret cult he was part of. He did not implicate the council boss in his activities or association with any cult group.
Support for Vigilante Efforts: The chairman has expressed support for the arrest made by the vigilante group, who have since handed the culprit over to the police for further investigation. This action buttressed the administration’s commitment to maintaining law and order.
The statement also suggested that the arrested individual might have been planted to create chaos during a recent rally, an attempt allegedly thwarted by preemptive security measures. Despite attempts to disrupt the event, the rally saw a massive turnout, which the government views as a strong endorsement of their candidate, Asue, by the people of Uromi and Uzea.
“Their failed attempt to disrupt the process has left them in shock, particularly given the significant turnout for Asue,” Osemobor added, noting that this support signals a rejection of the opposing candidate.
The government has advised the public to disregard the accusations and continue with their daily activities, assuring that security agencies are handling the matter. “We urge members of the public to go about their normal businesses as the security agencies are on top of the matter,” Osemobor concluded.
The administration’s rebuttal was aimed to quell the misinformation and reaffirm its dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of the community. The public was encouraged to share this clarification widely to counter the spread of falsehoods.
