As the September 21 governorship election in Edo State approaches, Dr. Oronsaye Monday Osafure, a Lagos-based medical doctor of Edo State origin, has issued a strong message to voters, urging them to be vigilant in their choices.

Dr. Osafure, while endorsing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, emphasized that elections have far-reaching consequences.

“My advice to Edo people is simple,” Dr. Osafure stated in a conversation with our Correspondent. “Open your eyes, look at the choices before you, and vote wisely. Elections have consequences.”

Dr. Osafure highlighted Dr. Asue Ighodalo’s qualities, describing him as “head and shoulders above the rest” of the candidates. According to him, Edo State requires a governor with sound education, a proven track record in the private sector, and unquestionable integrity.

“For me, the irreducible qualities for the governorship of a state like Edo are sound education, success in the private sector, and visible evidence of probity and integrity,” Dr. Osafure elaborated.

In a sharp rebuke of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Monday Okpebholo, who claimed that he doesn’t need a manifesto to govern, Dr. Osafure said such a statement “stands logic on its head.” He argued that failing to present a clear plan for governance is a disrespect to the people of Edo State.

“How can a doctor operate on a patient without diagnosing the disease?” Dr. Osafure questioned. “Oshiomhole and Okpebholo do not respect the people of Edo State. You want to govern an educated people, but you can’t show your workings? What a joke!”

He also warned against attempts to use violence or intimidation to influence the outcome of the election, insisting that Edo State is not Lagos and should not be treated as such. Dr. Osafure urged all parties to respect the election process, stressing that it is not a battle but a democratic exercise.

“Edo is not Lagos. Those who detest peaceful change should not enter Edo State. It is an election, not war,” he cautioned.
