In a resounding victory for Governor Hope Uzodinma, the Supreme Court has upheld his reelection as Imo State Governor, dismissing the Labour Party’s appeal. A unanimous decision by the five-member panel on Friday, August 23, affirmed Uzodinma’s win, dealing a blow to Labour Party’s candidate, Athan Achonu.
Justice Mohammed Baba Idris, delivering the lead judgment, stated that the appellants failed to meet the required burden of proof, leading to the dismissal of their case. This ruling reinforces the Court of Appeal’s earlier decision to uphold the election tribunal’s verdict.
The Supreme Court’s judgment has put to rest the legal challenges to Uzodinma’s reelection, solidifying his position as Imo State Governor. The court is set to deliver its judgment in the pending appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Samuel Anyanwu.
