Impeached Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu

The Deputy Director-General of the PDP Gubernatorial Campaign Council in Edo State, Dr. Don Pedro Obaseki, has claimed that the impeached Edo Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, has been involved in an ongoing ICPC case for fraud and tax evasion since 2014.

He suggested that Shaibu’s recent actions might be attempts to divert attention from his pending legal issues, now that he no longer has immunity.

Obaseki expressed disappointment in Shaibu’s behavior, particularly his public accusations against the executive governor, where he accused the governor of being lawless. He urged Shaibu to take responsibility for his actions and demonstrate humility, rather than continuing what he described as a pattern of dramatic behavior in the state.

In an interview with Arise TV, Obaseki remarked, “When you look at Philip Shaibu, it has become his recurrent and serial modus operandi to deceive the public. He is still facing an ICPC case for fraud and tax evasion from 2014. So maybe all these things are things he’s pursuing so that he will not face the real issues that are awaiting him now that he’s no longer enjoying immunity.

And not to talk about an alleged murder case which happened when he was majority leader of the Edo State House of Assembly. I saw him on Television screaming that the executive governor of the state is lawless. It’s sad that our former deputy governor is staining our people and he’s overstretching the grace of God upon his life. It was Chinua Achebe that said those for whom nuts have been cracked for them by benevolent spirits should not forget to be humble. The lack of humility and decorum by Mr. Shaibu is alarming. He should stop dragging us in his unending melodrama.”
