The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has declared that their candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, is the most capable and qualified to succeed Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Rev. Olu Martins, Deputy Director General of the Asue/Ogie Governorship Campaign Management Council, made this statement during a press briefing in Benin. He emphasized that voters should carefully assess the qualifications of the governorship candidates, particularly those of the PDP’s Ighodalo and the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo.
Martins highlighted that Ighodalo is the ideal candidate to carry forward Governor Obaseki’s legacy and build on the progress already made. He also noted that the current standards for leadership in Edo State are not high enough and called for an elevation of these standards to allow individuals of integrity, like Ighodalo, to enter the political arena.
He further criticized Senator Adams Oshiomhole, who has been actively campaigning for the APC. Martins claimed that Oshiomhole, unlike Governor Obaseki, left no lasting economic legacy in Edo State, while Obaseki is leaving behind a productive economy with multiple factories and industries generating revenue for the state.
“Oshiomhole who is criticizing Obaseki didn’t leave a productive economy and has no company attached to his name in the state.
“But, today, Obaseki is leaving several factories and industries that is generating IGR for the state”, Martins said
Roy Oribhabor, spokesperson for the Asue/Ogie Campaign Management Council, added that the APC’s candidate lacks the capacity to govern Edo State in the 21st century. He urged the people of Edo to remind Oshiomhole that he is not the one contesting in the upcoming election and should allow the APC candidate to speak for himself so that he can be held accountable for his actions in the future.
