Benin City, Edo State
The Team Asue Media Organisation (TAMO) has raised strong concerns over Senator Monday Okpebholo’s plan to rehabilitate federal roads in Edo State, accusing him of corruption and fraud. The media team representing Dr. Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate, expressed shock at Okpebholo’s proposal, claiming it exposes a plot to deceive both the federal government and the people of Edo State.
In a statement signed by Erhabor Emokpae and made available to Truth Live News and other media houses, TAMO condemned the senator’s comments during an interview with BBC Pidgin. They described Okpebholo’s road rehabilitation plan as an “open admission of corruption” and called on Edo voters to reject him in the upcoming September 21 election. According to TAMO, Okpebholo revealed his intent to claim inflated reimbursements from the federal government—an act TAMO labeled as “brazen corruption.”
During the interview, Okpebholo reportedly stated that as governor, he would undertake a road construction project for N10 billion but claim N20 billion from the federal government as reimbursement. TAMO interpreted this as a clear indication of Okpebholo’s intent to engage in fraudulent financial practices if elected governor, warning that his administration would likely plunder the state treasury.
“This is not just an alarming admission of a candidate’s plan to defraud the federal government, but also a concerning glimpse into how he intends to handle the state’s finances,” TAMO said. “We urge the people of Edo State to see this as divine intervention—a clear sign to reject Okpebholo and his party.”
TAMO expressed deep concern that a sitting senator and gubernatorial candidate from the ruling party would make such bold confessions on a global platform. They argued that Okpebholo’s remarks show a lack of moral integrity and the type of leadership that would only perpetuate corruption in Edo State.
The media team emphasized the sharp contrast between Okpebholo and their candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, praising Ighodalo’s track record of integrity, experience, and commitment to the people of Edo. According to TAMO, Ighodalo’s leadership style and vision represent the honest and effective governance Edo State needs to overcome its challenges.
“We believe the people of Edo deserve a leader who is committed to meaningful change, not one whose approach to leadership is rooted in scamming the government and the people,” TAMO concluded.
With the gubernatorial election approaching, TAMO’s statement seeks to cast doubt on Okpebholo’s suitability for office, framing Ighodalo as a far better candidate with the vision and competence to lead Edo State towards a more prosperous future.
