A very worrisome incident occur in Kano’s Badawa area, where operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have come under heavy criticism after allegedly shooting a young man and arresting several women and elderly residents.
The altercation reportedly stemmed from attempts by the operatives to prevent the construction of a neighborhood gutter that was set to pass by the house of a DSS assistant director, according to a report by Truth Live News.
Eyewitnesses claim that the DSS officials, in an apparent violation of town planning directives, used excessive force to halt the work on the drainage project.
Tensions escalated when locals resisted, resulting in the alleged shooting of the young man. Several women and elderly community members were also reportedly molested and detained in the chaos that ensued.
Community leaders expressed outrage over the incident, accusing the DSS of abusing their power to protect the interests of one individual at the expense of public safety and infrastructure development.
The local authorities have called for an investigation into the matter to ensure justice for the victims and accountability for the actions of the DSS operatives.
