“He lies! The old man of the party; he’s a born liar.” These, among others, were some of the striking words used by the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, during an interview on Politics Today, hosted by Seun Okinbaloye of Channels TV.
But wait, who’s this born liar? Who’s owns this sub? I mean, who’s the old man of the party? Who are these people who grew up in Jos and were tailors in Kaduna? Asue has said we must be careful with them because they are born liars and must never be taken seriously.
The point he’s trying to stress here is that some people seem to have a knack for telling lies – so much so that they’ve been dubbed “born liars.” Whether they’re stretching the truth, exaggerating facts, or fabricating entire stories, these individuals can deceive with ease and confidence, leaving others questioning reality. But what makes someone a born liar? Is it nature, nurture, or simply a survival instinct gone wrong? Or is it the desperation to install a puppet or sorry, the motor-boy as governor at all costs?
What triggered this story – I mean the “born liar” brouhaha? It was Seun who attempted to clarify the disturbing rumors that Asue is unable to speak his native Esan language. Asue replied very politely, “Seun, stop listening to rumormongers. It’s not true that I don’t understand the language. I understand the language. I don’t speak as fluently as I would love to, but I understand it fluently and well. I cannot go to the market and not hear what they tell me.”
Regarding being a city boy, he said, “Don’t mind these funny people. People who grew up in Jos say you’re not a local boy. People that were tailors in Kaduna say you’re not a local boy – how are they local boys?”
That’s not all. The born liar claimed again that the PDP candidate was part of those who brought an infamous dubious business to Edo state known as “Plan Well.” And Seun inquired if Asue was worried about the funny games being played around him.
The man, full of steeze, replied again, “I’m not worried. I’m supremely confident, but I know they are trying all kinds of funny games. But God Almighty is in full control, and God is with us.
“God knows that we love the people of Edo state, and we are going to work for the people of Edo state. At every point of our campaign, I’ve stayed on the issues. At every point, they’ve been campaigning, they’ve stood on personalities, propaganda, and lies.
“A few days ago, the old man of the party jumped out and talked about me and ‘Plan Well.’ He lies. He’s a born liar. And so, we should disregard anything that comes out of his mouth.
“Anybody with a bit of ability and sense can fact-check ‘Plan Well’ with the Corporate Affairs Commission, check the court decisions – no link whatsoever. I had never even heard of the company before until the APC liars started talking about it. And at every point, they lie because they have nothing to tell the people of Edo state. They don’t have facts; they don’t have anything that will help the lives of the common man, that will ease their suffering, or that will change the economic landscape or enhance infrastructure development.
“So, if people do not have anything to say or to do, they start with negative propaganda. I thought that age confers some level of responsibility, but I see, with that short old man – no sense, no responsibility,” Asue said, refusing to disclose the identity of the man he was referring to even when pressed by the interviewer.
However, what we are not sure about is whether this born liar tells small lies or harmless lies. We were not told. But, for a born liar, deception isn’t just an occasional slip – it becomes a habitual, almost compulsive part of their personality. Am sure this is the point Asue was making.
They lie to gain attention, they lie to avoid responsibility, or they lie to manipulate others to their advantage. In this case, the born liar lied against Asue Ighodalo to manipulate the people over the governorship election. Ignore his lies, trust Asue – E go do am!
