Ahead of the highly anticipated September 21 gubernatorial election in Edo State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has thrown his full support behind the leading candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo.
In a message shared across his verified social media platforms on Wednesday, Atiku urged the people of Edo State to seize the opportunity to reshape their future by voting for Ighodalo.
Atiku pointed out the failures of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and contrasting it with Ighodalo’s vision for prosperity.
“As the proud citizens of Edo State prepare to make their voices heard this Saturday, let us reflect on the immense power within our grasp,” Atiku said, emphasizing the need for Edo voters to use their vote as a tool for change and liberation from what he described as “the chains of bad governance.”
In a sharp critique of the APC, Atiku did not hold back, accusing the ruling party of betraying the people’s trust with false promises. “The APC has donned the mask of a friend to the masses, but behind this veil lies a sinister reality. They have lured gullible voters with sweet promises, only to reveal their true nature— a party driven by a hunger for power rather than the well-being of the people.”
Atiku painted a grim picture of Nigeria under the APC’s leadership, referencing the poverty, hunger, and insecurity that have plagued the nation. He reminded the people of Edo that the country’s current struggles, including the surging fuel prices, were symptoms of the APC’s mismanagement.
“The APC has not served the people; they have served themselves. A vote for the APC is a vote for the continuation of misery, hunger, and despair,” he declared.
In stark contrast, Atiku championed Dr. Asue Ighodalo as the right choice for Edo State. He described Ighodalo as a leader with integrity, ready to serve with competence and commitment.
“Dr. Asue Ighodalo shines as a beacon of integrity and vision. His candidacy offers a path to redemption for Edo State,” Atiku said.
Atiku urged the people of Edo to unite behind Ighodalo and reject the APC’s leadership.
“Let us cast our votes for Asue Ighodalo and usher in a new dawn for Edo State,” he concluded, urging voters to use their power wisely and elect a leader who would build on the successes of Governor Godwin Obaseki.
