The Edo State Government has officially announced the revised resumption date for schools following a prior postponement. According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Education, all public and private schools across the state are to resume academic activities on Monday, September 23, 2024. This brings an end to the earlier suspension of the school resumption, which was originally scheduled for September 9, 2024.
In the official statement, signed by Ojo Akin-Longe, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, the government expressed its commitment to ensuring a smooth return to academic operations for students and staff across the state. The decision was taken in line with efforts to ensure that necessary preparations for a conducive learning environment were adequately finalized.
“The Edo State Government hereby announces the end of the postponed resumption date. Schools, both public and private, are expected to reopen on Monday, September 23, 2024,” read the statement. The Ministry of Education urged parents, teachers, and school management to comply with the new directive and ensure that students are prepared for the new academic term.”
The initial postponement was attributed to a variety of reasons, including infrastructural adjustments, staff deployment, and administrative updates within the state’s education sector. The government, however, assured that all necessary measures have been put in place for a smooth reopening.
The statement, signed on behalf of the Honourable Commissioner for Education, emphasized the importance of a coordinated and safe resumption process. “We thank all stakeholders for their patience and cooperation during this period of adjustment, and we look forward to a productive and successful academic year,” said Akin-Longe.
Education stakeholders in the state have applauded the Edo State Government’s proactive measures in ensuring that the academic calendar runs smoothly. Parents and guardians have also expressed their eagerness for the resumption, noting the importance of the continuity of their children’s education.
The Ministry of Education also noted that any updates or further instructions regarding the school reopening will be communicated through official channels. All schools have been advised to ensure full compliance with health and safety protocols, particularly in light of ongoing concerns regarding public health.
