Donald Trump, the Republican presidential candidate, is set to make a bold return to Butler, Pennsylvania, the site where his life was threatened in a shocking assassination attempt on July 13.
This time, he won’t be alone – tech billionaire Elon Musk has confirmed his attendance at the rally, showing his support for Trump’s presidential bid.
The event, expected to draw a massive crowd of 15,000 to 100,000 people, will see Trump speaking behind protective glass, a precaution taken after the previous attempt on his life.
On that fateful day, Trump was six minutes into his campaign speech when eight shots rang out, injuring him and killing one attendee, Corey Comperatore. The would-be assassin, Thomas Matthew Crooks, was subsequently killed by federal snipers.
Trump’s campaign has framed his survival as a testament to his commitment to democracy, with his team stating that “he took a bullet for democracy” in Butler.
The former president has repeatedly expressed his desire to return to the site, calling Butler “a famous place – it’s like a monument now”.
Musk’s decision to attend the rally comes after endorsing Trump for another term in the White House and agreeing to lead a government efficiency commission if Trump wins re-election. This move has sparked interest, given Musk’s growing involvement in politics and his creation of a super PAC supporting Trump.
The rally promises to be an emotional and highly charged event, with Trump set to honor the victims of the July 13 attack, including Corey Comperatore and the two attendees who were wounded.
