Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has been honored with the prestigious Digital Governor of the Year (Public Sector Automation) award by the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR). This recognition comes as part of the Nigeria GovTech Public Service Awards 2024, slated for October 10 and 11, 2024, in Abuja.

The BPSR, a key agency under the Presidency, drives reforms within Nigeria’s public service. It praised Governor Obaseki for spearheading transformative changes in Edo State’s public sector over the past eight years. His efforts to modernize and automate governance processes were highlighted as exemplary and deserving of national recognition.

Under Governor Obaseki’s leadership, Edo State has transitioned from outdated, manual operations to a fully digitized public service system, improving efficiency and service delivery across the state. The adoption of digital tools has streamlined operations, connected all local governments to fiber optics, and established Edo as Nigeria’s leading state in digital governance.

Additionally, the state’s civil service now operates entirely on a paperless e-government platform, enabling faster administrative processes. Obaseki’s reforms also included building one of the country’s most modern secretariat complexes and instituting year-round professional development programs for civil servants through the John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy. These efforts, along with enhanced working conditions and a contributory pension scheme, have cemented Edo’s status as a model for public sector automation in Nigeria.
