President Bola Tinubu has implemented new measures to reduce government expenses, restricting Ministers, Ministers of State, and Heads of Federal Agencies to a maximum of three vehicles in their official convoys. No additional vehicles will be provided for their movements.

This directive was announced in a statement from Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

The statement emphasizes that these cost-cutting measures are part of the President’s broader initiative to streamline government operations.

Earlier this year, President Tinubu made significant cuts to government travel expenses, reducing his foreign trip entourage from 50 to 20 officials, and limiting local trips to 25 officials. The Vice President’s travel team was similarly reduced, with a limit of five officials for foreign trips and 15 for domestic journeys.

In addition to vehicle restrictions, the President has also ordered that each minister and agency head may only have a maximum of five security personnel, consisting of four police officers and one officer from the Department of State Services (DSS). He stated that no additional security personnel would be assigned.

The President instructed the National Security Adviser to collaborate with military, paramilitary, and security agencies to identify further reductions in vehicle and security personnel deployments for affected officials.

“All affected officials are expected to comply with these new measures immediately, underscoring the urgency and seriousness of these changes,” the statement added.
