Kaduna State’s Governor, Uba Sani, has promised to rehabilitate and empower recently released protesters from the #EndBadGovernance movement, provided they demonstrate responsible and law-abiding behavior moving forward.
The Secretary to the Kaduna State Government, Dr. Abdulkadir Muazu Meyere, spoke to journalists following the release of the detainees. He said the Governor instructed him to collect credentials from those who have completed tertiary education, indicating potential support for their professional growth.
“The Governor has assured that some individuals will receive start-up capital for business, others will be trained in essential skills, and some may be offered employment,” Dr. Meyere explained.
However, the government plans to closely monitor the conduct of all 39 former detainees to ensure good behavior before extending these opportunities. Dr. Meyere said officials had recorded their contact details, addresses, and emergency contacts to facilitate ongoing tracking.
Each detainee underwent a medical examination and received counseling, emphasizing the importance of becoming productive members of society. Religious leaders from both Islamic and Christian communities also shared messages on the value of faith and positive associations.
As part of the Governor’s goodwill gesture, each individual was provided with a new mobile phone, a sum of 100,000 Naira, and transportation back to their communities.
