Benin City, Edo State
Monday Okpebholo was sworn in as the new governor of Edo State, succeeding Godwin Obaseki, who completed his second term. “Let me start by thanking God for His grace and incredible blessings. Democracy has triumphed again in our dear state,” Governor Okpebholo said.
Reflecting on the occasion, he described it as “a humbling moment made possible by you all,” and continued, “Today, you have officially given me the mandate to preside over our dear state as governor for the next four years. We will not betray this confidence you have reposed in me and the deputy governor, Rt Hon. Dennis Idahosa. The welfare of our citizens is a top priority to us.”
Truth Live News gathered that the oath of office was administered by Chief Justice Daniel Okungbowa at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, where both the governor and deputy pledged to uphold the constitution and prioritize the well-being of Edo’s citizens.
Notable dignitaries, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, Chairman of the Governors’ Forum, Edo’s reinstated Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu, and several other APC governors, attended the swearing-in ceremony.
