The Taraba State Government has announced the temporary closure of Danbaba Suntai Airport in Jalingo to facilitate comprehensive upgrade works aimed at modernizing the facility.

In a statement signed by Genesis Kwantar, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation Development, and made available to Truth Live News and other reputable media houses, the closure took effect immediately following approval by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA). Operations are expected to resume on December 20, 2024.

Kwantar outlined key components of the upgrade, which include:

Construction of an improved drainage system.

Erection of a perimeter fence.

Installation of an Instrument Landing System (ILS).

Extension of the runway from 2.4 kilometers to 3 kilometers.

Procurement of two modern fire tenders.

“These upgrades underscore the Taraba State Government’s commitment to enhancing transportation infrastructure. The improvements will not only provide better services to residents but also strengthen connections to neighboring states,” Kwantar emphasized.

The ongoing renovations, which commenced in January 2024, aim to address frequent flight cancellations and delays caused by outdated facilities, ensuring the airport meets global aviation standards.

The state government assured residents that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the project is completed as scheduled, offering a modernized and efficient air travel experience by the end of the year.
