The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Ola Olukayede, has boasted of the commission’s achievements across the country, saying over 3000 convictions have been made within the last one year.
This was disclosed during a town hall meeting held in Benin City as part of the commission’s activities to commemorate the 2024 international anti-corruption day.
The Chairman who was represented by the acting zonal Director, Benin, Effa Okim, tasked the youths in the country to close ranks and confront the monster, called corruption.
Speaking on the theme, “Uniting the youths against corruption”, Ola Olukayode, said the event is targeted at getting the youths to be involved in the fight against corruption and helping them to choose the pathway of integrity.
He called on the youths to unite against corruption by exposing every tendencies and actions that work against accountability and right values in their neighbourhood.
In a goodwill messages, the chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Edo State Council, Dr. Festus Alenkhe, said the theme of the meeting was timely as it is targeted at addressing the foundation which is the youths, assuring that journalists in Edo state will continue to support the commission in its fight against corruption.
Also the chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Benin branch, Idemudia Osifo who was represented by Kenechukwu Ofoedu noted that corruption has eaten deeply into the fabrics of the society, urging the society to place more value on honest living rather than celebrating illegally acquired wealth.
The town hall meeting was organized by EFCC zonal commands across the 36 states of the federation including the federal capital territory.
