Workers in Edo State have taken to social media platforms, particularly Facebook, to express their discontent with Governor Monday Okphebholo’s administration for failing to pay salaries for November, even as today marks December 6.
In a series of posts observed by Truth Live News, teachers, health workers, and other civil servants aired their grievances, labeling the delay a reflection of what they termed an “anti-workers leadership style.”
Many lamented the financial strain the delay has caused, especially as the festive season approaches.
Comparisons were drawn between the current administration and that of former Governor Godwin Obaseki, whom the workers praised for prioritizing their welfare.
“Obaseki never owed us. Salaries were paid promptly, and we could plan our lives without fear,” one user posted.
Another worker wrote: “Governor Okphebholo must realize that the engine of governance is its workforce. This neglect shows his lack of regard for the civil servants who keep the state running.”
The wave of criticism comes as many households in the state struggle to manage their expenses amid economic challenges. Calls have intensified for the governor to address the issue urgently and ensure the regular payment of salaries moving forward.
Efforts to reach the Edo State government for comments were unsuccessful at the time of this report. However, the workers are adamant that their voices will not be silenced until their grievances are addressed.
