Nine civilians lost their lives, one sustained injuries, and another was reported missing after an attack by members of the Islamic State in the Great Sahara (EIGS) in Anzourou, a community in Niger’s Tillabéri region. The assault took place during the night of December 9, 2024.
According to Zagazola, an online African security watchdog Local sources revealed that the victims included members of the Anzourou armed militia. The deceased were identified as Issifi Boureima, Hassane Saley, Saley Mass, Seydou Hassane, Soumaila Morou, Illiassou Abdou, Mother of Mouni, Abassa Moumouni, and Mounkaila’s Sound.
The injured individual, Talhatou Seydou, is receiving treatment at a nearby medical facility. Meanwhile, one person, Idrissa Nouhou, is still missing and is suspected to have been abducted during the attack.
The Tillabéri region has increasingly suffered from violence by extremist groups linked to EIGS, targeting both civilians and security personnel.
