The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been urged to set up mobile courts on election day to swiftly tackle vote-buying, intimidation, and other electoral violations.

The recommendation was made by Mr. Bukola Idowu, team lead of the Kimpact Development Initiative (KDI), during the presentation of the organisation’s final report on the November 16 Ondo State governorship election in Abuja.

Idowu emphasized the need for collaboration between INEC, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) to monitor and prosecute electoral offences effectively.

The report also proposed stricter penalties for violations like ballot box snatching and highlighted the importance of pre-election testing for the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS). Deploying technical support teams at polling units and expanding backup systems were recommended to ensure smooth BVAS operations.

Idowu stated that these measures would enhance the credibility of elections, rebuild public trust in democratic processes, and promote good governance in Nigeria.
