Chairman of Edo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Caretaker Committee, Tony Aziegbemi, has raised the concern over the way and manner the state governor, Monday Okpebholo, is handling the affairs of the Local Government Councils and their chairmen, saying his actions are gradually snowballing into a full blown dictatorship.

He raised the concern in a press briefing at the PDP Secretariat in Benin on Friday evening on the heel of the impeachment of the Chairman of the Oredo Local Government Council Chairman, Tom Obaseki, by those he described as impostors.

He said that those, who on Friday morning carried out the impeachment of Obaseki, are of no consequence as they are impostors who never participated in the council election process.

“Short of calling what happened at Oredo Local Government Council this morning as a coup de tat, I can’t find a better word for what happened where we had 12 impostors… We are trying to say what is going on in Edo. How can under this governor, how can he allow impostors to say that they have driven away the elected people in the council.

“People that didn’t contest elections, people that don’t have certificate of returns. They will just gather in one room and say they have impeached the leader of the house, they have impeached the council Chairman etc. And everyone is quiet?”

Continuing: “We have said this before our traditional rulers, our opinion moulders, our religious leaders in Edo State.

“They’re letting down Edo people, if they imagine that this is about politics. We should leave politicians to do what they do.

“It will get to a point where this sky will fall on everybody’s head.”

Speaking further, the PDP Caretaker Committee Chairman stated: “So, we have deemed it necessary to invite you to have this emergency press conference and to call the attention of the President, the IGP, the DG SSS, to what happened in Edo State this morning. And we are urging them, very urgently for that matter, to please take this issue very seriously and deal with it now that they can still deal with it.”
